fully jarvis bamboo standing desk review a

Standing desks (or height adjustable desks) may not have become as popular among regular consumers as they are among professionals but there's no doubt that they've changed the business world forever. Health benefits aside (doctors seem to be somewhat conflicted about this as of late) there's no denying that it's not good for anyone regardless of age to sit for long hours every day and standing desks do offer a solution to that (especially for office workers). In my experience however standing desks also offer something other models don't, versatility to be used not only by both adults and children alike but also to be paired with virtually every type of chair out there. Fully is one of the oldest manufacturers of height adjustable desks and since some of you asked several months ago, we received their Jarvis Bamboo model which we've been using ever since.

The idea behind Fully is simple: Movement is good. When you move, when you are fully in your body, you feel more present, engaged, and alive. More of you shows up to work, to relationships, to life. This was the experience David Kahl had when he first sat in the HAG Capisco. At the time, the U.S. furniture business was pretty much as it had always been. The idea that furniture could radically change your experience of work was new, and what inspiring furniture existed was either unaffordable or oceans away. For David, the Capisco changed everything, beginning with his own life. He felt that this radical new experience in working —in feeling—had to be shared. So he quit his job, converted his father’s barn into a warehouse, and began the slow work of growing a company—from a warehouse of Capisco chairs, to a worldwide search for other inspiring products, to designing his own products when a search came up short. All with the mission of inspiring others to bring their full, active selves to work and life.

The Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk is just one of the several available models in the Jarvis line by Fully which as its name clearly points out uses a top made out of natural or dark finish sustainable bamboo which is then coated with super tough UV-cured, water-based polyurethane (there are also models with tops made out of scratch-resistant laminate, hand-crafted sustainable maple, hardwood and reclaimed wood). All tops are available in two shapes (rectangle and contour), several different sizes (in the EU Fully has 120/160/180x80cm models but in the USA they have several more) and with different colors for the top cable grommets (black and white). The tops sit on the Jarvis frame which has a lifting capacity of 158Kg (to included), is available in several different colors (black, white, silver and alloy) and its height is adjustable up to 116.2cm in the mid-range version (comes with an simple up/down handset) and 125cm in the extended range version (features the more advanced LED programmable handset). Fully covers their Jarvis Standing Desk line with a 7 year limited warranty and also offers a very rich range of accessories (including wire management kits, power grommets, clamp mounted power strips, monitor arms, organisers, CPU holders and desk LED lamps) which however we will not be covering in today’s review.

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

fully jarvis bamboo standing desk review 1t
The desk arrived in two boxes, one with the Jarvis frame inside and one with the bamboo top (for this review we got the extended Jarvis frame in black color and the 160x80cm top).

Fully packs the Jarvis frame in a two level box and although the frame is very heavy there were no issues with the parts.

Inside the Jarvis frame box you will find two lifting columns, two long feet, two wide frames, two side brackets, two center rails, control box with its power and leg extension cable, memory handset (or simple handset for the mid-range version), three plastic bags (containing screws, cable clips, acoustic dampening grommets and an Allen key), small mouse pad and the assembly instructions.

The top on the other hand was packed alone (worth pointing out that the top is not only of very good quality but also comes ready with two cable grommets).

ASSEMBLY

First step of the assembly requires mounting one of the lifting columns with one of the wide frames as seen above (using 4 short screws).

Then you will need to mount one of the side brackets using two long screws (repeat the same procedure for the other side).

There are several holes at the base of the top which you will use to mount all of the parts.

A total of 5 screws are needed to attach each side onto the top and we suggest using a normal screwdriver for that.

We did initially try using one of our power tools and this was the result (i guess it's no coincidence that Fully packs extra acoustic dampening grommets in the bundle).

With both sides mounted (don't forget to place the rails into one of the two frames prior to mounting them on the top) now we have to fix the two rails in place.

Fully unfortunately ships both rails without any kind of holes on them so you just need to use a total of 8 short screws to secure/push them in place (it works but having holes on the rails seems better).

The advanced LED handset was next and you can secure this in place by using two of the bundled wood screws (Fully has placed several mounting holes on both the right and left and of the top).

Mounting the control box is the easiest part since you just need to slide it in place as seen above.

There are 5 cables in total along with the power cable but even though Fully packs cable clips with the Jarvis frame i suggest using plain cable ties instead (even reusable ones like those in the above picture) since it's not only easier but also a lot faster.

Last step is to mount the two long feet onto the lifting columns (4 long screws required for each).

In case some of you are wondering the round rubber, feet are adjustable in height just in case the location where you place the desk is not completely even.

FINAL LOOKS

The entire assembly procedure took less than an hour and as you can see the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk is quite large (and this isn't even the largest available version).

By using the LED handset, you can set the Bamboo top at the lowest height setting which is just 63cm from the ground (why Fully mentions that the Jarvis is also ideal for kids) or at the highest height setting which skyrockets it to 1255cm (the LED handset also has a total of 5 presets on it).

The elegant Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk is designed primarily for office use.

CONCLUSION

fully jarvis bamboo standing desk review b

Due to some personal issues i ended up using the Jarvis Bamboo standing desk for a lot longer than initially expected and for that exact reason i was also able to test this desk every way imaginable (i even used it to get high enough to change some lights instead of using the ladder - i may not weigh 158kg but 86kg is not a small number either). So quality is great, the Bamboo top withstood everything i threw at it while the frame itself is heavy-duty and almost touches what I’ve only seen in the industrial section (the paint however is quite easy to come off so avoid even the slightest hits by heavy objects). Even though the plastic control box may feel somewhat out of place (a metal one on the other hand would be a bit overkill) but the mechanism is also faster than expected and takes just 16-17 seconds to raise the Jarvis frame to its highest point of 125cm. My sole issue (if you can even call it that) with the Jarvis line is that Fully has yet to introduce a model aimed at gamers and i honestly think that one such model could get quite a bit of traction. Granted gamers will probably not play while standing up (some just might however) but having the ability to adjust the height of your desk at any given time is certainly something I’d definitely be interested in having (and the same goes for many other people I’ve asked).

So how much for the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk by Fully? Well motorized standing desks are not the most "affordable" models in the market today but with a price tag starting at just USD469/474Euros directly from Fully (USD694/594Euros for the model we reviewed today) the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk actually costs less compared to many similar competing models. On top of that add the vast customization options Fully has available and there's really no way you will not be able to find a configuration to fit your taste and/or space. At the end of the day even after almost 2 months of daily use i can't find anything wrong with the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk, build quality is very high, available sizes allow for even up to two 37 inch screens (perhaps even 40 inch ones) to be positioned on it, the mechanism is quite fast and accurate thanks to the LED handset (it does take however a second or so for it to stop once you take your finger off the button), in terms of height adjustment well up to 1255cm means you can work while standing up even if you're almost 2 meters tall and as for the 7 year warranty we've yet to see a better one. With all of the above in mind the Fully Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk secures our Platinum Award.
