Halo 4 for PC is finally here through The Master Chief Collection (complete finally) and even though it took me less than a day to finish (too short and faster than the ones before it - the remastered/enhanced graphics were quite good however) it made me realize just how many popular titles are going to be released not only by the end of this year but also in 2021 (including Cyberpunk 2077 and of course Halo Infinite - although early clips look a bit too cartoonish). On top of this there've been far too many people asking for affordable wireless headset reviews for almost a month now (obviously due to what's happening again with all the lockdowns) so since i always like to deliver to what readers ask of me i decided to try and take a look at some. The first arrived just over two weeks ago and is no other than the latest model by EasySMX, the V07W.

EasySMX was founded with a rebellious spirit and a simple mission: to offer gamers quality products at an affordable price. Every idea starts with a problem. Back in college, one of our co-founders, Stephen, lost his precious headsets during a moving and had to endure poorer ones for a whole semester, a profoundly sad thing for a rabid LOL gamer. Unfortunately, replacing gaming setup comes with a high price. And he was stunned at how difficult it is to find a pair of headsets that fit your head perfectly and yet didn’t leave your wallets bare.

For their latest V07W 2.4G Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset EasySMX has used two 40mm neodymium dynamic drivers (frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz with 16Ohms impedance and 103dB sensitivity) which thanks to the addition of a built-in USB sound card can produce 7.1 virtual surround audio. It also features 2.4G low-latency wireless connectivity (10-15 meter range), 3.5mm wired connectivity, detachable unidirectional noise-cancelling boom microphone (frequency response of 100Hz-10KHz and -38dB sensitivity), lightweight design for optimal comfort, aluminum frame, external earcup controls, earcup lighting (7 colors) and a 800mAh built-in lithium-polymer battery pack which can provide the headset with up to 8 hours of audio playback. So, let's see what this brand new and affordable wireless headset by EasySMX is capable of.

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

A large product picture takes most of the front of the box.

4 drawings located on the left side of the box showcase system compatibility.

The product specifications and features can be seen at the rear.

Both the headset and the rest of the bundle are placed inside a formed piece of plastic.

Along with the V07W and its detachable boom microphone inside the box you will also find the 2.4G transmitter, USB to micro USB charging cable, 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, voucher/opinion paper and the user manual.

THE V07W

The V07W weighs roughly 322g and is made out of plastic, leatherette and aluminum.

In terms of size the V07W is clearly a medium sized model.

EasySMX has placed their logo on the exterior of both earcups and at the center of the illuminated sections.

At the front of the left earcup we find the 3.5mm microphone port whereas at the base we find the 3.5mm input and at the rear the volume control knob and the microphone mute switch.

The detachable microphone is very flexible and has a pop filter at the front.

Moving to the right earcup we find the micro USB charging port at the base and the power and LED on/off buttons at the rear.

Left and right markings are placed on the interior just over the earcups.

The earpads are dressed with leatherette and are quite soft.

Of course, the same applies to the headpad (the white stitching is a nice touch).

As expected EasySMX has engraved their logo on the exterior of the headband.

The headband extends on both sides up to 46mm total (23mm on each) via 6 increments.

Unlike the transmitters by companies like Creative, Corsair and Logitech the one bundled with the V07W is larger (still the size of a USB flash drive).

Here you can also see some of the available LED colors.

CONCLUSION

easysmx v07w review b

The V07W is an affordable 2.4G wireless gaming headset and that as expected is a partial indicator of its overall performance. So, starting with the good the V07W offers good positioning audio (as tested with games like Halo 4, Red Dead Redemption, World Of Warships and Crysis Remastered), good range of up to 6 meters with a concrete wall in between (i also didn't experience any audio disturbance or cut outs during my tests) and quite good mids and highs (not detailed and crisp enough as some other models but good – bass, not so much). So, what about the bad? Well one issue i encountered was with its volume levels which when used wirelessly are extremely low and by low i mean very low. This doesn't happen when using the 3.5mm wired connection but you wouldn't be getting the V07W if you wanted to use it with wires (take into account however that i didn't test the headset with a console, just on two PCs). Another issue is the lack of software. Yes, the headset is plug and play but you should be able to switch between stereo and surround sound output among many other settings. Battery life is also less than stellar with just over 6 hours at maximum volume. Granted 6 hours should be plenty to cover 2-3 game sessions but compared to what we see from the leading manufacturers yes this is nothing to get excited over. Finally the illumination feature of the V07W although better than nothing at all still is way too limited and certainly doesn't look quite as good as some other models.

Affordable products need to be exactly that and with a current price tag set at USD50.99/43Euros the V07W 2.4G wireless gaming headset by EasySMX clearly ticks that box. So even though it does fail to impress with its overall performance it does offer a good price/performance ratio and for that I do recommend checking out, especially since this is the holiday season (could be the perfect Christmas gift to some).
