Nowadays in the market there may be a virtually unlimited number of CPU coolers but it wasn't that long ago when the only available solution people had was the quite noisy and not very good stock factory cooler (HSF). Of course back then overclocking didn't really exist and since performance benchmarks didn't really exist either (thus almost no performance competition between the few available systems) nobody really wanted more. Well i can't say with certainty if it was the increased needs in overclocking over the years or just the need many people had for "quieter" systems that actually opened the path for 3rd party CPU coolers in the market but regardless of the reason the end result is obvious to all (even though the number of available coolers may actually confuse some people). Our review today is about one such CPU Cooler and more specifically the Okeanos RC-1402 model by REEVEN.

REEVEN is a newly established international manufacturer of PC related products. REEVEN’s product lines include the best quality of advanced CPU coolers, Cooling Fans, PC Cases and many other items. The target of our products will be a wide range of audience under our philosophy “Professional Quality Gears”, for products that will withstand the highest demand.

The Okeanos RC-1402 is based on a dual aluminum heatsink design built around six heatpipes so although quite thicker compared to the Ouranos RC-1401 model which we reviewed recently it's still nothing we haven't seen in the past by other manufacturers. REEVEN also equips the Okeanos RC-1402 with two high speed PWM fans (120/140mm) and gives you the ability to add a 3rd by offering an extra set of mounts something not every manufacturer out there does. Unfortunately much like with every other dual heatsink CPU cooler in the market the sheer size of the Okeanos RC-1402 automatically means that clearance issues with some mainboards and/or memory modules are possible and thus a zero-clearance model like the Ouranos RC-1401 is a better choice. However what matters is just how much better the Okeanos is compared to the Ouranos so let's find out.

Along with the Okeanos RC-1402 heatsink and the two high-speed fans the box also contains two SSA adapters for the fans (low-speed), 6 fan mounting clips, backplate, installation manual, Allen key and all the necessary screws and bits to install the cooler onto Intel LGA775/1155/1156/1366/2011/2011-3 and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2/FM2+ mainboards.

THE OKEANOS RC-1402

The main body of the Okeanos RC-1402 measures 110mm in length, 140mm in width and 163mm in height while it weighs a total of 772g.

REEVEN has placed their logo at the top fins of both heatsinks.

Each of the two heatsinks has a total of 58 aluminum fins (0.22mm thick each) including the top one.

Six nickel plated all-copper heatpipes pass through both heatsinks.

The nickel plated all-copper base is polished but not enough to give it a mirror-like finish.

The 140mm PWM fan that sits between the two heatsinks can spin up to 1700RPM to produce up to 92.4CFM of airflow with 36.4dBA of noise.

On the other hand the front 120mm PWM fan can spin up to 1800RPM to produce airflow up to 92.5CFM with just 33.4dBA of noise.

With both fans mounted the Okeanos RC-1402 now measures 135mm in length and weighs 1145g (the mounting clips take no extra space but are not the easiest to use).

TESTING METHODOLOGY

We always take things quite seriously when it comes to work so just like with the previous LGA1366 database we will not be testing each CPU Cooler on its own and with different ambient temperature levels and thus we can actually have yet another valid CPU Cooler database. Testing a CPU Cooler automatically means that you need to know where it stands against the immediate competition and to accomplish that we have spent both money and time through the years, something that we plan to continue to do so in order to get the most accurate results for the end consumers who read these lines. Every CPU cooler in this database is tested with the bundled 140mm/120mm/92mm/80mm fans while working at both idle speed and 100% of their speeds for all the temperature tests. CPU Coolers that do not come bundled with a fan/s are measured using a Noctua fan (size dependent on the model) to test for the temperature tests but due to the lack of a stock fan dBA level tests are obviously skipped. Single (120/140mm) watercooling solutions are tested with the radiator mounted at the rear of our test rig while dual/triple/quad (240/260/280/360/420/480/560mm) solutions with the radiator mounted at the top. For the dBA tests every cooler in the database was measured both while on idle mode or with the fan controller in the minimum setting and while on extreme load or with the fan controller all the way to the highest possible setting (PWM fans do that on their own without our intervention). Every single test takes place in a temperature controlled room of 23 degrees Celsius Ambient Temp with the help of two AC units placed diagonally inside the room. The Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste is used with every CPU Cooler in our latest LGA2011 database (although initially this was not the plan we had to change things to get the most accurate results). Finally it's very important to point out that just because a CPU Cooler is better than another when tested with our test rig that does not necessarily mean that the same performance differences will apply 100% for other CPU models and in other situations (such as different ambient temps and system configurations).

To successfully record the load temperatures we use the latest OCCT application for around 6-10 minutes to push the processor to its limits and after that is done and the temperatures are recorded we wait for about 10-20 minutes for the CPU to cool down and record the idle temperatures. This is done to allow time for the thermal conductive material to achieve the optimal performance level. Same procedure is then repeated with the Passmark BurnIn Test as a failsafe just in case the OCCT results are wrong. This procedure takes a lot more time than the usual peltier/thermometer tests but this way not only can we deliver real world results to our readers based on real CPUs but we can also triple check the results using a variety of programs. Last but not least the temperatures were recorded using both the latest versions of AIDA64 and RealTemp while the noise level tests are performed using a high precision ExTech HD600 Decibel Meter placed about 10-15cm above the CPU Cooler. Still although the same testing procedure applies to all units do take into consideration that unlike the official numbers which are measured in special noise isolated labs with just the fans here we also have both the rest of the cooler and the rest of the system (although all system fans are turned off when recording noise levels).

CONCLUSION

reeven okeanosb

When we finished testing the Ouranos RC-1401 model we were all quite impressed with what REEVEN managed to throw into the market not only because of its very good performance levels for a single heatsink model but also because of the high build quality. Of course since the Ouranos is a single heatsink model naturally we expected more from the Okeanos and although it's indeed better it's not really by much. Because of that the Ouranos may actually be a better choice for people since it's not as large (40mm thinner and 2mm shorter), can close the performance gap even more (or entirely) by adding a 2nd fan in push & pull and features zero-clearance issues with mainboards and components. However if you care not about size and you may also add a 3rd fan onto the Okeanos then this is the one for you. With that out of the way the one thing we didn't like much with the Okeanos was the fan mounting clips since they are not the easiest ones to use always compared to others we've seen in the past.

REEVEN has a long way to go when it comes to product availability and the reason i say this is because the Okeanos RC-1402 is currently unavailable inside the USA and available in just a handful online stores inside the EU (similar situation as with the Ouranos) for a price tag set at around 60Euros. This is something REEVEN needs to improve rather fast especially since the price tag of the Okeanos is quite good for a dual heatsink model. That being said the Okeanos RC-1402 may not have delivered exactly what we were hoping to see (always compared to the Ouranos) but it's still a dual heatsink CPU cooler that offers very good cooling efficiency without asking for much in return and for that it gets our Golden Award.
