tronsmart mega pro review a

Going on trips either in places around the country in which i live or to other countries is not only relaxing (at least most of the time) and even intriguing for me, it also provides me with the opportunity to test various compact electronic devices like headsets, portable batteries, action cameras and of course portable speakers. So, when last week i had the chance to once again visit Cyprus i filled an entire cabin luggage with such devices and even though i ended up only staying for 4 full days i managed to use every single one of them (some i had begun testing long before i left). As expected however not all of them were just as impressive and so one of the two that stood out most was no other than the MEGA PRO Portable Speaker by Tronsmart.

Tronsmart is a tech brand that designs and manufactures world-class tech accessories, which has rapidly expanded in America, South America, Europe, Middle East & many Asian countries. The core value of Tronsmart is to make your life easier by providing you with high-tech, high-quality and high-performance products. Tronsmart has covered over 70 countries in the world.

The MEGA PRO is probably the largest portable speaker manufactured by Tronsmart to date and features an IPX5 water resistant enclosure inside which they've placed 2 tweeters (far left and far right), single woofer (center) and a large custom designed passive radiator (rear) effectively giving the speaker a 2.1 channel configuration (60WRMS total output with a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz). Housed inside the large IPX5 certified chassis also are a Bluetooth v5.0 chip (NFC, A2DP V1.3, AVRCP V1.4 and HFP V1.6 compatible with SBC audio codec support), dual amplifiers, microphone, LED illuminated touch media buttons (top), 10400mAh rechargeable lithium battery (up to 10 hours of playback at 50% volume), microSD card reader (supports WAV/FLAC/APE/MP3 formats), 5V USB-A charging port and components for Tronsmart's patented SoundPulse technology (basically a 3D DSP which boosts volume and audio quality). However, unlike the Studio model which i reviewed a while back (review here) you may have 3 EQ modes to choose from (Deep Bass/Vocal/3D) but you can only pair just two MEGA PRO portable speakers together (in TWS mode). So, let's see what the largest portable speaker in the entire Tronsmart lineup is really capable of.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

Tronsmart uses a white box to ship the MEGA PRO inside which typically has their logo at the front along with a large product picture and the main product features.

An exposed product picture is located at the top of the box whereas at the bottom we find yet another product picture right next to a smartphone (probably a way for you to also see the real size of the speaker).

The bundle contents are printed at the rear just under the product features and next to yet another product picture.

Inside the box the speaker is nicely wrapped in a synthetic cover and placed between two pieces of plastic.

Along with the MEGA PRO you’re also getting a USB-C charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable, thank you paper, SoundPulse technology showcase paper and the user manual (even though on the box it says a storage pouch is included it didn’t come with my sample).

THE MEGA PRO

The 1.78Kg heavy MEGA PRO portable speaker measures 252mm in length, 105mm in height and 84mm in depth.

To have a better idea about its size I placed the MEGA PRO right next to the Studio model (again by Tronsmart) and the MARS model by Gravastar.

A mesh grille made out of metal surrounds the entire speaker (although not easily visible at the front we have two tweeter drivers - one on each end - and a woofer driver at the center).

At the top of the speaker, we have the LED illuminated media touch buttons which include the voice assistant/answer/end calls button, modes/disconnect bluetooth/reset button, volume control slider, TWS (speaker pairing) button, EQ button and the previous, play/pause/next track buttons (the NFC area is also here).

Moving at the rear we see the on/off button and a plastic cover over the microSD card slot, 3.5mm port, USB-A port and the USB-C charging port.

The base of the MEGA PRO is rubberized (just like the top) and has a total of 4 short feet.

As you can all see the LED illumination of the touch buttons is somewhat basic but it serves its purpose.

CONCLUSION

tronsmart mega pro review b

The Studio was a balanced speaker which although quite compact turned out to pack quite a punch both in terms of volume and audio clarity. Unsurprisingly due to its larger size the MEGA PRO adds in volume and maintains the same level of audio quality. Of course, the difference in size isn’t directly tied with increase in volume levels or better yet, it’s not quite equivalent. Still the MEGA PRO is indeed more powerful and can easily be used to fill a couple of rooms. The ability to add another MEGA PRO in TWS mode is one more very useful feature but since i got just 1 unit I wasn’t able to try it out. In terms of build quality, the MEGA PRO scores very high (just hope the rubber parts don’t get sticky over time) and as for battery life well it depends a lot on usage and more specifically volume levels. Still at almost 80% volume I did record just over 6 and ½ hours, a number which is very good for the volume the MEGA PRO outputs even at 80%. Finally, the 3 available EQ modes work very well but you will need to switch between them quite a bit to find the most suitable one according to the type of music you’ll be using the speaker for.

Currently retailing for USD76.49 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 109.99Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) the MEGA PRO portable speaker by Tronsmart is priced just right, especially in the USA. Yes, the name Tronsmart may not inspire confidence to some consumers but both of their products to have arrived in the lab to date have delivered on exactly what they should so I really can’t say anything bad about them. At the end of the day the MEGA PRO delivers on everything from volume levels and audio clarity to battery life and build quality and even though pricing on this side of the Atlantic could obviously be better it clearly deserves the Golden Award.
