CONCLUSION

After spending almost 2 weeks with the aune AC55 (which I paired with the FiiO R7, R9, Μ15 and M23 music players, as with past reviews) I have mostly good things to say about it. The 40mm open‑back driver gives it a scale and openness that feel almost out of place in a clip‑on format, with a wide, tall stage, smooth mids, and bass presence that punches far above what its frame suggests. Its warmish, musical tilt makes long sessions effortless, and the modular OFC cable reinforces the sense that this is a compact product built with serious intent. Build quality feels deliberate and durable, volume headroom gives it real authority even from modest sources and as for comfort the flexible ear hooks and soft earpads make long listening sessions feel effortless. Still the AC55 also carries the inherent trade‑offs of its design, isolation is essentially nonexistent, size and weight distribution can feel unusual at first and bass response depends heavily on getting the fit just right. These trade‑offs don’t undermine the experience, but they do define it, the AC55 by aune excels when you want openness, clarity, and comfort, and it’s less suited to environments where isolation or compactness matter.
Priced at just USD199 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 239Euros inside the EU (aune-store.com) the AC55 Reference by aune are priced very well, always for what they deliver. Yes, their design belongs to a different approach which may not be for everyone but because of their surprisingly good audio accuracy, design, build quality, good comfort and high-volume levels they clearly deserve the Golden Award.
