sennheiser epos gsp 370 review a

Playing online cooperative games and not wanting to annoy the person next to me have always been the only two reasons behind using a headset while at home. You see since the late 90's I’ve always used 5.1 and above surround sound systems with all my PC's (besides online cooperative games were pretty much non-existent back then) so naturally i ended up using them a lot more than any headset. These pages and all the tests in them however are not about me but about everyone else out there (including all of you who like using or have to use a headset) which is why I’m always looking to get my hands on every single model that i can in order to check it and report back to you all. Sennheiser is a name i always wanted to add in my reviews and although i have to admit it took very long for that to happen today with me i have the EPOS Sennheiser GSP 370 Wireless Gaming Headset.

EPOS is an audio company developing and selling devices for business professionals and the gaming community. Based on leading and advanced technologies, the newly established Danish company EPOS will deliver high-end audio solutions designed for Enterprise Solutions and Gaming headsets – with design, technology and performance as paramount parameters. EPOS derives from Latin and ancient Greek and is used to describe epic stories, speech and poetry. The name encapsulates our dedication to create solutions that enforce ways of communication and unleash human potential through the power of audio. EPOS operates in a global market with offices and partners in more than 30 countries and builds on more than 115 years of experience in sound and innovation. Find more information about EPOS at www.eposaudio.com.

I feel i need to point out that from this point forward EPOS will manufacture and sell the existing Sennheiser gaming line co-branded as EPOS | SENNHEISER products and will of course introduce new and exciting lines under the EPOS brand name (our sample however arrived in the old Sennheiser box and not the new EPOS one). As for the GSP 370 Wireless Gaming Headset well it was released late last year and sports very interesting characteristics including two 50mm neodymium dynamic stereo drivers (20Hz–20KHz frequency response with 117dB sensitivity), flexible noise-cancelling unidirectional boom microphone (100Hz–6.3KHz frequency response with -41 dB sensitivity) with "lift to mute" function, earcup volume wheel, split padded headband, memory foam ear pads, low-latency wireless connection with lag-free audio (thanks to the bundled dongle) and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack which can provide the headset with up to 100 hours of playback. Also, via the PC Gaming Suite software (compatible only with Windows 10) the end user can also customize and optimize the audio settings of the GSP 370 Wireless Gaming Headset both in regards to the speakers/drivers and the microphone. This is the very first product to arrive in the office by Sennheiser (EPOS now) so without further ado let's check it out.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

sennheiser epos gsp 370 review 1t

The headset arrived in a white and black box the front of which is taken by a large product picture along with the Sennheiser logo.

Both the contents of the bundle and the technical specifications of the headset are printed on the left side.

A few words about the product are located on the right side right over a list of compatible devices.

Several barcodes and serial numbers are placed at the base of the box.

The product features are also printed at the rear of the box in 6 languages.

Packaging is excellent with the headset and its bundle placed inside a plastic box.

Aside the GSP 370 wireless headset the box also contains the tiny GSA 370 dongle, 1.5 meter long micro USB charging cable, safety guide, compliance certification and the quick start guide.

THE GSP 370

The GSP 370 is primary made out of hard plastic and weighs just 285g.

Here you can see the GSP 370 is also a medium-sized model which should also be very comfortable (albeit not the best looking one).

Sennheiser has placed their logo on the exterior of both earcups and their name right over them.

The noise-cancelling unidirectional boom microphone is fixed onto the left earcup and has a rubber coated section which as you can see is very flexible (pull it up if you wish to mute it).

A 2D barcode is located behind the microphone (tried scanning it without luck however - probably points to the product page).

Moving at the base of the left earcup we find the pairing/battery status activity LED, micro USB charging port and the on/off switch.

The right earcup only features the volume dial on its exterior.

These may not be the largest ear pads we've seen to date but thanks to their shape and material (memory foam dressed with synthetic fabric) they are very comfortable.

Left and right markings are located on the interior of the headband right over the earcups.

By using a split padded headband your head doesn't get as hot as with other models thus increasing comfort levels.

The headband of the GSP 370 can extend up to 39mm on each side (78mm total) via 13 visible increments to fit all head types and sizes.

Just like with most wireless dongles we see with headsets and mice the one bundled with the GSP 370 is even smaller than a regular USB flash drive.

Only the activity LED turns on when the headset is operational.

PC GAMING SUITE

The speaker tab of the PC Gaming Suite software allows you to check the status of the battery, adjust the volume, choose one of the 4 available presets (esport/flat/movie/music), switch between stereo (2.0) and virtual surround sound (7.1) mode and set the reverberation level (keep in mind that the amount of available options in this software change from model to model).

From the microphone tab you can enhance your voice (warm/clear effects), mute the microphone and adjust the gain and noise gate (noise cancelling) features.

Inside the last tab you can check the firmware (for both the headset and the dongle) and software versions and perform updates (the headset can only be updated while plugged into a USB port).

CONCLUSION

sennheiser epos gsp 370 review b

I ended up using the EPOS Sennheiser GSP 370 Wireless Gaming Headset for a total of 2 weeks with several game titles (including GEARS Tactics, Need For Speed Heat, Forza Horizon 4, Doom Eternal, Star Citizen and Grand Theft Auto 5) and multiple 4k Blu-ray movies. Well as the name clearly states the GSP 370 is a gaming headset and so even though its Movie preset helps I really didn’t like the way it sounded in movies (listening to music is far better). I guess it’s ok if you don’t plan on using it much to watch movies but if you do then I do recommend looking elsewhere (one of the other EPOS Sennheiser models perhaps?). Moving to games this is where the headset shows its true worth since it offers very good positioning audio with good bass levels and accurate mids and highs. I did notice some static in the audio a couple of times but that’s not something I haven’t encountered with most wireless headsets out there. Build quality is also very good (as are comfort levels) and although I may not like the feeling of the volume knob but it works as it should so no real issues here. EPOS Sennheiser claim that the GSP 370 can last for up to 100 hours but as expected I wasn’t able to come nowhere near that so if you like using your headset at almost maximum volume like I do you’ll be very lucky to surpass 70 hours (which too is a very good number) without a recharge. Finally, I was genuinely surprised to see that the microphone actually does a very good job and is better than 80% of the headsets (both wireless and wired) I’ve tested and/or used to date so I guess kudos to EPOS Sennheiser for that.

The GSP 370 Wireless Gaming Headset was launched late last year and today it retails for USD198.95 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 190Euros inside the EU (Amazon.co.uk) a price tag which is very balanced, especially for a product by Sennheiser. So, is the GSP 370 worth your money? Short answer is yes, if you are a gamer that is (if you like watching movies primarily however you should look elsewhere). So, if you enjoy playing games and you’re tired of cables the GSP 370 is for you and since it delivers on everything that really matters it does deserve our Golden award.
