American Megatrends Supports both BIOS and BMC on World’s First 10nm 48 -core Qualcomm Centriq 2400 Server Processor

American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is pleased to announce its support for Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies, Inc. as the company launches its new 48-core Qualcomm Centriq™ 2400 server processor based on 64-bit Armv8-A architecture.

In support of Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies, AMI has developed custom Aptio® V UEFI BIOS Firmware and MegaRAC® SP-X Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware that leverages the unique "built for the cloud" architecture and capabilities of the new Arm-based Qualcomm Centriq 2400 server processor. For several years, AMI has been active in the development of UEFI and BMC management firmware for Arm-based platforms, with support for all major Arm64 client, server and micro-server platforms from leading providers including Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies.

The Qualcomm Centriq 2400 is based on a custom Armv8 processor design with up to 48 cores with greater than 2GHz performance per core. It is targeted at virtualized environments in cloud datacenters, with an emphasis on scalability, optimal throughput performance and efficiency for today’s multi-threaded cloud workloads.

"Today marks an exciting day for us as we launch the Qualcomm Centriq 2400. Collaborating with AMI from the early days of our product development has helped to create the industry’s leading-edge Arm-based server platform for our customers to consume effortlessly," said Ram Peddibhotla, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies. "The custom Aptio UEFI Firmware and MegaRAC SP-X BMC Management Firmware that AMI developed for the Qualcomm Centriq 2400 platform takes full advantage of the chip’s unique architecture, allowing us to efficiently support customer designs."

"We have observed with great confidence over recent years how Arm-based server platforms would continue to evolve and be adopted by the industry. AMI took steps early on to ensure that we would have a firm foothold in this space. Today, we are extremely proud of the fact that AMI is the only independent software vendor (ISV) that supports all major Arm64-based platforms with our UEFI and BMC solutions," said Subramonian Shankar, President, Founder and CEO of American Megatrends. "It has been a great honor to work with the well-respected Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies team in support of today’s launch and we look forward to many more years of collaboration as we meet the needs of our OXM and hyperscale datacenter customers."
