There’s a lot to excite movie theatre operators visiting this year’s biggest industry show. Sony Digital Cinema 4K is proud to be supporting CinemaCon once again, with a busy schedule of events, demonstrations and more from 11-14 April at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Sony Digital Cinema 4K is also delighted to be sponsoring the Filmmakers Luncheon (13th April 1.00-2.45pm). As one of the great highlights of CinemaCon, this special session will be hotly attended.

“These are dynamic times for our industry, and it’s great to be back in Las Vegas. This year we’re expanding our support for both NATO and CinemaCon, involved right at the heart of the show activity” confirms David McIntosh, Vice President, Sony Digital Cinema 4K Solutions for Europe and the Americas. “As well as underlining the impressive global sales success of our current projector line-up and how our exhibitor customers are benefitting from huge cost savings, we’ll be talking to our key customer accounts about current technologies and how Sony sees the future, including for laser projection”.

Sales momentum continues
It’s been a strong growth year for Sony Digital Cinema 4K, now offering a complete range of DCI compliant 4K projection solutions for every size of cinema – including our SRX-R515DS dual 4K system for large format screens that’s enjoyed significant market success since its public announcement at CinemaCon last year.

Customers for this highly cost-effective high brightness solution include Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – ‘the world’s coolest movie theatre’ – and Latin America operator Cine Center that’s recently installed four systems in Bolivia. They’re joined in Europe by Cinecitta Nuremberg and Broadway Kino Ramstein in Germany, Showcase in the UK, plus Mars Cinema Group in Turkey that’s added the dual 4K system to eight of its premium large format screens.
The SRX-R515DS lets exhibitors and their patrons enjoy extra-bright high-contrast images on larger screens up to 19.5m/64 feet for 14ft-L on white screen with 1.8 gain for 2D presentation or 3D on screens as large as 23m/75 feet for 4.5ft-L on silver screen with 2.4 gain (installation conditions dependent), plus highly affordable running costs. Its efficient, low-maintenance HPM multi-lamp array can also yield annual savings of up to 13,000 Dollars per large-format screen, compared with the higher running costs of Xenon-based projection lamps.
“With image quality that’s far superior to other new light source technologies – and at a very attractive price – this offers a compelling big-screen proposition to the market for years to come” says David McIntosh.

Next Generation laser
“Sony have always recognised from day one that the only way to go is 4K and our full line up currently offers superb picture quality- “with the SRX-R515 offering a contrast ratio averaging 8,000:1 why would you upgrade that for a first generation laser product with less than 3,000:1?” comments McIntosh.
“Let’s be clear – laser is going to be a game-changer, but right now it’s of questionable relevance when Sony 4K still outshines costly, unproven first-generation laser technology on factors like cost and contrast that really matter to exhibitors. And when you see what our engineers are fine-tuning in Japan, you’ll realise that the next chapter of laser is looking very bright indeed” says David McIntosh.

4K Event Cinema
Live concerts, drama, opera and sporting events are also good news for cinema operators in search of new customers and extra revenues. Working in partnership with leading exhibitors and content owners, Sony Digital Cinema 4K has played a key role in bringing more 4K event cinema exclusives to audiences. Increasingly more Hollywood blockbusters and prize winning art house hits- are being shot and distributed to cinemas in 4K so why should event cinema audiences receive anything less than the best pictures too?
Recently captured in Sony 4K in London’s West End, Hangmen is the fourth collaboration in the year-long partnership between National Theatre Live, Vue Entertainment and Sony Digital Cinema that brings world-class theatrical experiences to the big screen in unsurpassed 4K clarity.

Sony Digital Cinema 4K is firmly set on giving exhibitors higher image quality at a lower total cost of ownership.
