Watch The Perfect Guy with DOP Peter Simonite - Monday 16th November 5.45pm
Go behind the scenes of the recent Sony Pictures and Screen Gems box office topping film The Perfect Guy, with DOP Peter Simonite on Monday 16th November at 5.45pm in the Opera Nova Main Screening room. The film will be followed by a workshop where Simonite will share why he chose to shoot with the F65. Simonite has several films to his credit, including serving as 2nd unit DP on the Terrence Malick-directed The Tree Of Life, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography in 2012.
“Most of the film was shot on the Sony F65, I chose it for its light sensitivity and really vivid colour. We went with the Hawk Vintage 74 anamorphic lenses to capture every detail, even in low light. These lenses have a softer quality; diffusing the F65 and making the whole image look a little creamier, more painterly. We also liked what it did on the actors’ faces for skin tones. It had a beautiful effect,” said Peter Simonite, DOP. “Filming in Los Angeles at night with anamorphic lenses required a little more light too, the Sony F65 helped us out with that. The camera’s light sensitivity was perfect, capturing ambient light, which lends itself to anamorphic at night. We also used the Alpha 7s for this reason; it’s very light sensitive and was helpful in a lot of night sequences.”

Woody Allen goes digital with Sony CineAlta F65 in 4K
Three-time Academy Award winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro is currently working with Woody Allen on his recently announced first ever digital shoot. Storaro has dedicated his professional work to digital technologies, with 4K being the latest example of this. The F65 has long been the choice among filmmakers around the world, but it’s the 4K capability which attracted Storaro to the CineAlta camera.
On his decision to use the F65, critically acclaimed cinematographer Vittorio Storaro said: “I had seen that the Sony F65 was capable of recording beautiful images in 4K and 16 bit-colour depth in 1:2, which is my favourite composition. So when Woody [Allen] called me this year asking me to be the cinematographer of his new film with the working title "WASP 2015", my decision was already made. I convinced him to record the film in digital, so we can begin our journey together in the digital world. It’s time now for the Sony F65!”
