NEC Display Solutions of America,   a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector  solutions, announced today the UM352W ultra-short-throw projector that enables  broad collaboration among teachers and students to improve learning.

The 3,500-lumen  projector includes a built-in interactive pen receiver and two interactive pens  for white-boarding and annotations at the writing surface. An auto-calibration  feature makes for a simple alignment of the system, creating peace of mind for  users.  They also can make onscreen  annotations on any wall, dry erase board or chalkboard without the need for a  computer.  And the information can be   shared immediately.

The projector also works with NEC’s NP01TM touch module, which allows finger-touch white-boarding and interactivity with a  connected computer.  Teachers and  students are able to draw, control and interact with the writing surface as  they currently do with tablet-based devices.

“Educators  continually tell us the importance of collaboration with students in the  classroom, and the UM352W projector helps them fulfill that mission,” said Bob  Guentner, Senior  Product Manager for Projectors at NEC Display Solutions.  “NEC is committed to providing  industry-leading teaching tools to improve student performance.”

The UM352W includes NEC DisplayNote Software, an  app that lets teachers and students present, share and annotate content from a  multitude of devices, including PC’s, tablets and smart phones. This allows  students to take notes in class and automatically save them for review.

The projector also is  environmentally friendly.  Its ECO Mode™  technology increases lamp life up to 6,000 hours, while lowering audible noise,  power consumption and maintenance costs. Its 6,000-hour filter lowers  maintenance intervals, and its built-in carbon meter tracks CO2 emission reduction as a result of ECO Mode.

Other benefits include:

  • 1280 x 800 WXGA resolution
  • Content can be shared over wired and wireless networks from  multiple smart phones, tablets and computers at once with NEC Image Express  Utility, NEC Wireless Image Utility, DisplayNote and Miracast® Network command and control
  • Integrated 20 watt speaker
  • Intuitive remote control, which provides one-touch source  changes and complete menu control
  • Horizontal and vertical keystone correction tools, which  give installers greater flexibility in mounting the projector and confidence the image will fit the screen every time
  • Broad set of inputs, including dual HDMI, computer,  composite video, S-Video and component video
  • Dedicated HDMI/MHL input, which makes it easy for presenters  to connect their smart devices to the projector; second HDMI input also  included for customers utilizing multiple digital sources

The UM352W with built-in pen-based interactivity, stand-alone white-boarding and  DisplayNote is available at an estimated street price of $2,349, and ships with  a 2-year limited parts and labor warranty.   The UM352W-WK bundle includes a UM352W projector and custom wall mount, and is available at  an estimated street price of $2,449.  The UM352W-TM bundle includes a UM352W projector, custom wall mount and interactive touch  module, and is available at an estimated street price of $2,748.
