D-Link today announced a new Dual-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (DXE-820T) designed for high-speed PCI Express bus architecture. Offering increased bandwidth, reliability and expanded functionality over standard PCI network cards, the new DXE-820T allows total throughput at rates up to 40 Gbps, thus eliminating the bottleneck that exists with current 32 and 64-bit PCI bus architectures.
Each port on the DXE-820T supports 10 Gbps speeds at distances up to 100m (328 ft.) over CAT-6A (or better) LAN cabling, or up to 50m over lesser CAT-6 cabling. In addition, the DXE-820T is backward compatible with existing 1GbE networks, supporting 100/1000 Mbps speeds over CAT-5/5e cables to 100m distances.
“The DXE-820T is designed for use in servers with multi-core processors, clustered solutions, and high-performance workstations,” said Steven Olen, director of product marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc. “With support for 10GBASE-T technology, this new adapter is an excellent complement to our new 10 Gigabit Copper Switch (DXS-1210-12TC), and makes upgrading to 10 Gigabit technology now more affordable than ever.”
The DXE-820T supports power saving features such as IEEE 802.3az, which reduces power consumption in the absence of data. Other advanced features include link aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad), Smart Load Balancing Teaming, RSS (Receive Side Scaling), and iSCSI boot support.
About the DXE-820T
The DXE-820T delivers reliable, high-speed data transmission performance, minimal power consumption with a 4.48 watt maximum draw, and a range of advanced traffic and security management features; additional benefits include:
- Onboard 802.1Q VLAN Tagged Ethernet Screening – Allows users to assign multiple subnets to each server and isolate devices within each VLAN from the rest of the network for better traffic control and security
- Advanced Network Management – Supports advanced features such as 802.3x Flow Control, Jumbo Frames and SNMP for network management and can easily interoperate with current networking equipment.
- Checksum Offloading – Features TCP, UDP and IP checksum offloading functionality, transferring the checksum processing tasks from the computer’s CPU to the network card to reduce CPU processing burden
- Low Power Consumption – Maximum power consumption of 23.38 watts for increased efficiency and power savings
