Sony is aiming to help content owners protect and maximise the value of their’ legacy content assets with the launch of Media Lifecycle Service (MLS). Uniting its industry leading expertise in digitisation, storage and archiving, digital content distribution and asset monetisation into a single business, Sony believes that broadcasters, and other owners of large video libraries, are sitting on untapped content assets at a time when consumer demand for content has never been so high.

“The saying content is king has never been so true but only if the content owner has the ability to efficiently manage and deliver their content to consumers at the right time, in the right format, on the right device. This is why Sony’s launched Media Lifecycle Service,” said Adam Fry, Head of AV Media Solutions, Sony Professional Solutions Europe.

Fry added, “We will work in partnership with customers and help them, at each stage of this content journey, to identify high value content, and move it through the digitisation to monetisation lifecycle with the goal of both satisfying existing customer demand for great content, as well as generating new revenue streams from previously unseen content. It’s a win, win situation for both the content owner and their customers alike.”

Having worked on similar projects already with customers including BBC Worldwide, Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony has both capability and experience. "We have capitalised on Sony's proven expertise to create a single service which will help our long term partners realise the true value of their content assets.”

“Each stage of the service supported by MLS is complex and a significant undertaking in its own right; having a partner who understands the challenges and can guide them through the entire value chain to monetisation, will provide peace of mind and a competitive edge,” ended Fry.
MLS itself is divided into three service areas and customers can use any or all elements of them, at a pace that suits their particular business strategy;

• Digitisation, which includes Sony’s optical disc archive technology, offers the ability to preserve and restore valuable assets and advanced indexing and metadata;
• Managed storage and secure cloud based archive management allows customers to archive, manage and access their content;
• Distribution and monetisation creates e-commerce opportunities, new revenue streams and new audience engagement opportunities in 26 languages and 66 countries.
