Sony today announced it is strengthening its medical workflow and line-up of imaging technologies with the launch of the MCC-500MD, a new flexible medically certified Full HD single chip camera with 1/2.9-type Exmor™ CMOS image sensor.

Perfect for ophthalmology, microscopic surgery, neuro-surgery, or gynecology, this new camera is the successor to Sony’s widely used DXC-C33P standard definition camera and gives medical professionals an economical entry into HD quality.

“This new camera’s image capabilities rival that of more expensive three-chip cameras and give medical operations of any size a high-performance tool at a very affordable price” said John Herman, European Marketing Manager for Surgery at Sony Europe.

The camera’s high-quality 1/2.9-type Exmor Full HD image sensor lets physicians freeze an image at very high-quality and sharpness with no pixilation. The MCC-500MD camera has enough output flexibility to fit a range of medical environments, with HDMI, HD-SDI (1080p), S Video and Composite video connectivity. The Medically certified MCC-500MD camera runs on AC power, and therefore no additional external adapter is required making installation easier and more suitable for clean medical environments. The MCC-500MD
can also be synchronized in a dual camera system to be used for 3D video acquisition at a very attractive price level compared to other 3D camera solutions currently available.

The new MCC-500MD camera will be available in April 2014. For more information, visit www.pro.sony.eu/medical.
