QNAP® Systems  Inc. today announced a partnership with Microsoft® to provide QNAP users  with Windows® Azure cloud backup support. The Azure Storage app is  available from the QTS App Center on Turbo NAS units with QTS 4.0 or newer  versions. Users can easily install the app and start backing up their NAS data  to the Windows Azure cloud storage for disaster recovery and archiving.

“Turbo NAS  offers users a range of cloud backup solutions to safeguard their data, and we  are pleased to provide an additional alternative by partnering with Microsoft  that offers Windows Azure for secure cloud storage,” said Jérôme Jaussaud,  product manager of QNAP. “It is also beneficial for existing Microsoft users to  utilize QNAP Turbo NAS as a centralized storage solution and to back up their  NAS data to Windows Azure cloud storage for easy data restoration.”

By using the  Azure Storage app, Turbo NAS users can quickly set up multiple accounts, create  scheduled jobs to automate the backup, and restore any folders from the backup  data. The Azure Storage app advances data protection by supporting client side  encryption, effectively preventing data breach even if the user's cloud storage  account is compromised. Other supported functions include incremental backup, restoring  deleted data, multi-threaded upload, extensive file type filtering options,  configurable error recovery options, and more.

“Windows  Azure provides scalable, durable cloud storage, backup, and recovery solutions  for all sorts of data,” said Maria Wastlschmid, Windows  Azure Product Manager of Microsoft Germany. “We are pleased to offer the great  solution to QNAP users.”

Availability

The Azure  Storage app is now available as beta  version for business  and home Turbo NAS models upgraded to QTS 4.0 NAS OS or newer version.
