QNAP x DataCore

QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP) announced a partnership with DataCore to deliver a cost-efficient global file system that provides on-premise automated file transferring and archiving for businesses with distributed hybrid-cloud environments to centrally store data, maximize storage efficiency with automatic AI-driven data tiering, while also simplifying multi-site data access.

As companies undergo digital transformation, more data will be generated and significant storage space will be required. QNAP NAS provides high-capacity storage that supports all storage types, including block-level, file-level and object storages. Users can run vFilO as a virtualization layer on QNAP’s QuTS hero TS-h2490FU all flash NAS as primary servers to store metadata and active data, and leverage the more affordable TVS-h1688X NAS (S3 compatible object storage with QuObjects application) as secondary storage to store inactive data. By deploying DataCore’s vFilO on the primary NAS, IT staff can easily manage up to zillions of files by establishing policies to identify data to be archived to the secondary NAS based on metadata (such as file activity) to enable automatic AI-powered data tiering. With DataCore vFilO that supports Software-defined Storage (SDS), IT staff can also easily scale up to forty NAS units to flexibly increase storage capacity whenever needed.

“DataCore vFilO creates a scale-out global file system across distributed sites spanning on-premises and cloud-based NFS and SMB shares. It continually performs load balancing, safeguards, and migrates files between active primary tiers and secondary tiers like S3 object storage. Users can easily leverage a software-defined architecture for maximum flexibility by mixing and matching the storage of their choice based on cost, performance, and other bespoke requirements,” Joshua Lai, Technical Account Manager of DataCore.

“The value of data changes over time. Therefore, IT admins need a solution to gain insights into their data for easy archiving, while still making the data easily accessible across distributed environments,” said Calvin Ma, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “QNAP NAS with DataCore vFilO helps simplify file archiving and tiering, reducing both storage and management costs while increasing the data accessibility.”
