QNAP Releases QTS 4.5.3, Supporting Google Edge TPU for Enhanced AI Image Recognition on QNAP NAS

QTS 4.5.3

QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP) today officially released QTS 4.5.3, the latest version of QNAP’s advanced NAS operating system. With added support for Google Edge TPU (Tensor Processing Unit), businesses and home users can now affordably leverage AI acceleration to enjoy faster image recognition in QNAP NAS applications.

By leveraging Google Edge TPU to QNAP AI Core (the AI-powered engine for image recognition) the QuMagie photo management app in QNAP NAS can perform high-speed face and object recognition. When importing massive amounts of photos to QuMagie, the affordable Google Edge TPU can quickly process thousands of photos with high-speed AI image recognition. Tests within QNAP Labs* on a batch import of 300 photos with faces performed at 22 FPS with Google Edge TPU - 11x faster than without a Google Edge TPU (2 FPS).

Product compatibility:

  • Accelerator module with Google Edge TPU: Coral M.2 Accelerator B+M key and Coral USB Accelerator
  • Supported QNAP NAS: x86 (Intel or AMD) QNAP NAS models with Linux kernel 4.14 (or later)
