American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is currently in attendance at the Spring 2018 UEFI Plugfest, presenting the enablement of advanced NVMe features through UEFI.

The Spring 2018 UEFI Seminar and Plugfest brings together leading experts and introduces the latest UEFI firmware advancements. The event is an opportunity to meet with industry colleagues, test the latest platforms, devices and firmware, as well as learn about the newest UEFI enhancements.

The event takes place from March 26 to March 30 and American Megatrends is currently in attendance as an attendee and presenter. AMI’s presentation track revolves around NVMe and how advanced NVMe features can be implemented through UEFI. The NVMe specification is a well-known specification that outlines the benefits of implementing non-volatile memory in various types of computing environments. Similar to UEFI, NVMe was formed through industry collaboration and has quickly become adopted in the technology industry due to the usefulness of its features and increased speed capabilities.

While UEFI currently supports generic NVMe features, there are additional NVMe features, such as SAT3 Password Support, Pyrite Support, BlockSID Support and NVMe Metadata Support, currently not covered in the UEFI specification that the firmware can benefit from. With UEFI’s standardized interface and foundation for extending support for these additional features, AMI presents to attendees how NVMe and UEFI complement one another to extend functionality and allow users to use their systems more effectively.
