At this year’s Cinec held in Munich, Sony is presenting its technologies and workflows for HD, 4K, High Dynamic Range (HDR), storage and playback. The new additions at stand 3-D04 include the AXS-R7 recorder for the Sony CineAlta PMW-F55 and F5 available as of now, as well as high-speed AXS memory cards. Version 8 firmware is also further enhancing the capabilities of the F55 and F5.

The real highlight is the portable AXS-R7 4K solid state memory recorder. In combination with the F55 the R7 it also offers recording in 4K 120fps. The new option of cache recording and also dust and splash protection are ideal for documentary use or just everyday production.
“These new technologies answer the question of ‘why shoot in 4K 16-bit RAW’? And, demonstrate Sony’s commitment to the F5 and F55’” said Sebastian Leske, Marketing Manager, Cinematography, Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “Working in 4K RAW and High Dynamic Range (HDR) opens up new creative possibilities for production professionals who are not prepared to compromise on image quality.”

Additional trade fair highlights
In cooperation with the Munich-based company Pomfort, direct support of the F65 is also demonstrated within the grading software LiveGrade Pro. This combination allows live grading on set and optimising workflows for the F65.

The PVM-X550 55“-4K TRIMASTER ELtm OLED monitor, is also being exhibited. It’s ideal for precise colour correction and quality control, allowing professional black performance, colour reproduction, pixel reaction time and precise signal processing.

Also being showcased is the Sony PMW-PZ1 4K SxS memory player, a high-quality and cost-effective playback solution for 4K recording and post-production applications. The PMW-PZ1 enables multi-format playback for 4K and supports powerful QFHD and HD, as well as a variety of formats. The player is ideally suited for playing back recordings from the PXW-FS7 with a 4K Super 35 Exmor sensor.
