French director Jacques Audiard has won the Palme d'Or at the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival ceremony on Saturday night with his film “Dheepan”, cinematography by Eponine Momenceau.

The award-winning film, shot on Sony CineAlta F55, tells the story of a former Tamil Tiger fighter looking for a new life in France. This is the second prize for Audiard in Cannes: his feature film “A Prophet” won the Grand Prize in 2009.

The director of photography Eponine had experienced the Sony F55 and found that the rendering of the skin tones and colors were really truthful. She is extremely glad to have chosen this compact and lightweight camera since all the shots were captured handheld.

This is the second year in a row that the winner of the Palme d’Or and their film has been shot on Sony CineAlta. Only last year, Nuri Bilge Ceylan won the Palme d'Or for his movie “Winter Sleep”, shot on F65, cinematography by Gökhan Tiryaki.

This year, several films shot on Sony CineAlta have incorporated various Cannes selections. Among them:

“Mon Roi” by Maïwenn, cinematography by Claire Mathon, shot on F55, was at the Sélection officielle and its main actress, Emmanuelle Bercot, won the Best Actress prize.

• "Le nouveau testament" by Jaco Van Dormael, cinematography by Christophe Beaucarne shot on F65, competed in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.

• "Ni le ciel ni la terre" by Clement Cogitore, cinematography by Sylvain Verdet, shot on F55, participated in the Semaine de la critique.

• “La Vie en Grand” by Mathieu Vadepied, cinematography by Bruno Romiguière, shot on F55, closed La Semaine de la critique.

• “Gaz de France” by Benoit Forgeard, cinematography by Thomas Favel, shot on F65, was presented at the ACID.

• "La Glace et Le Ciel" directed by Luc Jacquet  and shot on F55 was the closing film of the festival.

Audiard’s movie “Dheepan” will be released worldwide in August 2015.
