Helping the world harness the power of data, HGST (@HGSTStorage), a Western Digital company (NASDAQ: WDC) today announced that its Active Archive System is the recipient of one of the media industry’s most prestigious technology honors – NewBay Media’s Best of Show Award, presented at the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas by Digital Video magazine. NewBay Media’s Best of Show Awards are evaluated by a panel of engineers and industry experts, and are selected based on innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry.

HGST’s Active Archive System is an object storage system that enables businesses to cost-effectively store, retain and harness the power of data. Delivering 4.7 petabytes (PB) of raw data storage in a single rack, the HGST Active Archive System is a ready out-of-the-box object storage system that helps data centers easily evolve from siloed data storage to cloud-scale active archiving.  For rich media content that is in need of long-term retention with fast access, the Active Archive System provides unprecedented levels of accessibility, scalability, simplicity and affordability. Its breakthrough TCO beats the white box economics of traditional cloud infrastructure to enable organizations to store more content online without the need to move to tape archives.

HGST will be featured in Digital Video, read by thousands of video professionals in the United States, around the world and online. Digital Video magazine offers technology-focused editorial, in-depth reviews, expert guidance, and tutorials alongside editorial that follows the creative process, examines project challenges and showcases compelling work.

All nominated products also are featured in the special Best of Show Awards Program Guide, to be distributed in digital edition form to more than 100,000 of readers of Digital Video, TV Technology, Video Edge, Radio World, Radio magazine, Pro Sound News and Sound & Video Contractor after the convention.

“Recognition with an award at the NAB Show from NewBay Media’s Broadcast & Video Group is a strong vote of confidence and admiration from our leading industry publications,” said NewBay Media Broadcast & Video Group Vice President & Group Publisher Eric Trabb.

“HGST’s Active Archive System delivers a platform that makes it affordable to keep more data on-line and available, and we are honored that NewBay Media has recognized this achievement,” said Barbara Murphy, vice president of marketing, Elastic Storage Platforms Group, HGST. “We have delivered the only solution that offers superior economics with industry leading rack density, resiliency, and access at petabyte-scale. Leveraging our investment in object storage software and our unique approach of vertical innovation, our Active Archive System is well-positioned to help media companies drive greater value from their digital assets.”
