Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, and University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) today announced the launch of an inaugural Technology and Entrepreneurship Achievement competition. Through this new program, UC Irvine graduate students will learn how to structure and negotiate a business deal involving a new and exciting technology and compete as part of interdisciplinary teams. Learn more here.

"This competition will give graduate students from different fields valuable, hands-on experience at solving real business challenges as a team, just as multi-discipline groups do every day in the workplace," said Arthur Chong, Broadcom Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. "Broadcom is honored to partner with UC Irvine to create a unique, collaborative and valuable opportunity for students interested in problem solving at the intersection of technology and entrepreneurship."

The Technology and Entrepreneurship Achievement competition will bring together UC Irvine students from the School of Law, Paul Merage School of Business, Henry Samueli School of Engineering and the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences to develop practical transactional skills, gain exposure to corporate issues and learn best practices from a distinguished panel of Orange County professionals. The teams will be judged and awarded based upon the effectiveness of their business strategy, understanding of the issues, overall professional demeanor and the terms of the final agreement.

"Our engineering graduate students are working on real-world challenges that face society today," says Gregory Washington, Dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering. "Gaining an understanding of the business and legal issues involved in developing new technologies through this kind of competition will go a long way in preparing students as future innovators and entrepreneurs."

The all-day event will take place February 28 at the Paul Merage School of Business followed by an Awards Dinner at the University Club.
