HARMAN, the premium global audio and infotainment group, announced today that it has finalized agreements with two leading domestic automakers in China to feature the Company’s infotainment systems. These multi-million dollar contracts have helped build HARMAN’s backlog of awarded global automotive business to over US$19 billion.

“With these two new awards, we continue our strategic vision in providing premium infotainment features to our customers in high-growth emerging markets,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, HARMAN Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “In just five years, HARMAN has achieved tremendous success in the BRIC markets winning new audio and infotainment business with several of China’s largest automakers. Following earlier successful launches of our branded audio systems for both Geely and Chang’an, we are pleased to extend our relationship to include best-in-class infotainment solutions for these automakers and their customers.” HARMAN will work with Chinese auto manufacturer Chang’an Motors to develop a premium infotainment system for its upcoming Raeton midsize sedan and Cinturx brand. The two companies will work closely together to develop a system that will bring added connectivity and functionality to the vehicle with MirrorLink integration as well as voice recognition and text-to-speech technology. HARMAN currently supplies premium branded audio solutions to Chang’an, and this agreement now extends the relationship to infotainment. Both vehicles featuring HARMAN infotainment will debut in the Chinese market in June 2015.

Geely Motors, a leading Chinese automaker and parent company of Volvo Cars, and HARMAN have worked together since 2011 to bring premium infotainment to the Chinese market. Now, this new award will extend the partnership to bring HARMAN infotainment into the automaker’s new midsize sedans. With voice recognition technology, available in Chinese and English, the system will allow the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road while accessing navigation, audio, and incoming telephone calls. Through MirrorLink connectivity, the infotainment system will bring more applications into the vehicle by integrating with driver and passenger smartphones. HARMAN infotainment will be available for Geely’s vehicles in October 2015.

HARMAN is the global leader in infotainment, with more than 22 percent of the share of the market worldwide. HARMAN provides premium infotainment systems for the top OEMs that account for 80 percent of the infotainment volume in the industry, including Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Toyota, Hyundai, Subaru, and Porsche. HARMAN has been named as a finalist for five Telematics Update Awards for 2014, the most of any automotive Tier 1 supplier. In 2013, the global research and consulting firm Frost and Sullivan awarded HARMAN the title of global industry leader for in-vehicle infotainment.

The Company has HARMAN Flagship Stores in Shanghai and Beijing to showcase its brands, and operates R&D and manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Suzhou, Shenzhen, and Dandong, China.
